Goodwick to Abercastle

A long walk with more ascent and descent than you’d expect. Great view from Strumble Head

Details

most people do this walk from strumble head (quite a bit shorter), still estaimted at 4-5hours.

we think this might have been a bit far

first adventure on bus, took bus from abercastle to goodwick, 404 strumble shuttle. bus lady thought we were crazy. She pointed us in right direction from bus stop, up road parallel to bus stop road away from town ascending quite steeply. get food here before you climb as not much else available.

climb hill, walk past housing estate, still well signed but quite strange, then you join coastal path which is actually a bit inland. this cuts off pen anglas where there is no path by sea, there is a path out here if you want the view, but you will get lots more opportunity, and have to come back along this to rejoin costal path

couple of headlands round saw seals making funny noises.

followed many small coves, undulations through woods.

rise up to french landing point, last international invasion of wales, eccles cake stop!

continue to strumble head, 10km from start. felt long way, could see strumble head a long way before you get there, following round many headlands.

strumble head, place for day out, passed on bus if you took it. great views, good photo spot. nesting birds, etc. no actual amenities food drink or anything here.

stopped for lunch 0.5km after.

couple of km to pwll arian, then start more energetic section. signs from strumble head are for pwll deri, which is top of climb. YHA at pwll deri, beautiful spot

contiuned to aber mawr, along cliff tops, still reasonable amounts of up and down. stopped at this beach for a break, pretty.

5km back to abercastle from aber mawr, easy compared to previous stretch. saw massive jelly fish on this section.

long and tiring but very enjoyable!
