Lacs de Chamrousse

Easyish walk out of the ski domain into some beautiful surroundings

Walk taken from Lacs de l’Isere 06, and is a classic tour from the Croix de Chamrousse to the Refuge du Pra. The book suggests taking the cable car up and descending by foot, however the descent is quite steep and fairly uninteresting, we therefore chose to climb back to the Croix de Chamrousse and descend by cable car. We continued only as far as Lac Longet.

Once descended from the Croix to Lac Robert (~220m) you quickly leave the ski domain and open out int undulating terrain. From here to Lac Longet and back is about a 550m climb over 8km or so. Lac LĂ©ama is impressively teal coloured. The book suggests detouring to see the enclosed Lac Bernard, and has you return via Lac David.

Be careful following the signed times. Lacs Robert are signed as 55min from Lac Leama when in reality it took us about 1h20 walking at a decent pace. The final climb back up to the Croix is about 30mins.

You could also split this walk and stay at the Refuge du Pra however you should probably book in advance as it can be busy in summer. From the refuge there are some pretty great other options such as Lac Crozet.
